Frequently Asked Questions
What is an intake assessment?
An intake assessment is our first meeting, designed to gain a comprehensive understanding of your current concerns, symptoms, and goals. Kristen Powers, LSW, MPH will ask questions about various areas of your life to create a personalized plan for therapy or mental health consulting. This session also helps determine if we are a good fit and allows us to make tailored treatment recommendations.
Do you offer emergency or crisis services?
We do not provide crisis or emergency services. If you are in crisis, please refer to this list of crisis lines (https://namiillinois.org/crisis-info/). In case of an emergency, please call 911 or visit your nearest emergency room.
Do you see clients outside of Illinois?
Kristen Powers, LSW, MPH is licensed to provide therapy for clients located in Illinois. However, mental health consulting is available to clients nationwide, offering personalized guidance, mindset work, and self-improvement strategies outside the scope of therapy.
Do you offer in-person services?
Therapy and coaching sessions with Kristen Powers can be in person in LaGrange, IL or conducted virtually via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
What is your cancellation policy?
We request at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel a session. Cancellations made within this timeframe may be subject to a cancellation fee. Therapy and coaching appointments are reserved specifically for you, and maintaining consistency is essential for progress. While we understand that unexpected situations arise, this policy ensures that the time dedicated to your growth is honored.
Mental Health Consulting is NOT THERAPY and vice-versa
If you choose mental health consulting, though you are receiving it from a licensed therapist, it is NOT THERAPY and should not be used in place of therapy for people who need therapy. If you prefer more tailored mental health services or are in diagnostic need, you will select therapy.
Do you accept insurance?
We are a private pay practice and are not contracted with insurance companies. However, many clients successfully use out-of-network benefits for therapy services. This allows us to offer specialized, high-quality care without the restrictions imposed by insurance, such as session limits or required diagnoses.
Choosing an out-of-network provider also ensures full confidentiality, keeping your treatment private from insurance companies.
Can I use my out-of-network benefits?
Yes! We have partnered with Thrizer to simplify the reimbursement process. With Thrizer, you only need to pay your co-insurance upfront instead of the full session fee, potentially saving you up to 70% of costs. Learn more at www.thrizer.com.
If you prefer to submit for reimbursement on your own, we can provide a superbill or invoice with the necessary details for your insurance provider.
Can I use my HSA/FSA card?
Yes! Many clients use their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for therapy services.
What is a Good Faith Estimate (GFE)?
We comply with Good Faith Estimate (GFE) regulations, which provide clients with a transparent estimate of therapy costs before treatment begins. This includes estimated session fees and any additional services. More information on this policy can be found at www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
